Los altos precios de los alimentos que hicieron estallar mortales disturbios por alimentos en el mundo en el2008 que fueron debido a una combinación de cambio climático y aumento en la demanda para alimentar a los animales de poblaciones en India y China. (Programa Mundial para la Alimentación de la ONU)19
El númbero de personas que sufren de hambre excedieron los 1.000 millones por primera vez en el2009.20
Cerca de 9 millones de personas mueren en el mundo cada año debido a hambre y malnutrición. Cinco millones son niños.21
