In a July 19, 2011 study evaluating changes in the 55,000 glaciers across the Himalayan ranges between 1955 and 2007, a team of glaciologists found that an alarming 65 percent are melting due to global warming, which is also giving rise to increased risk of avalanches and high-magnitude earthquakes.
