In efforts to curb especially youth alcohol consumption, the popular tourist area of Catalonia has banned so-called “happy hour,” or special promotion times for drinks
in bars and nightclubs. This includes prohibiting discounts such as two drinks for the price of one or unlimited drinks for a certain fee.

Catalonia's Public Health Director Antoni Plasencia said, “We must protect citizens and we want to impede… the uncontrolled consumption of alcohol.” Spain’s health ministry also announced on Thursday, October 15, that the ban may be extended nationally.

Kudos government of Catalonia and Spain for this preventive measure to safeguard youth and citizens. May leaders worldwide enact similar policies that provide freedom from harmful intoxicants as these for the peaceful and vibrant living of all.
