Newer Hybrid Buses Cheaper To Operate

Hybrid buses save energy and money too. A recent report by the US Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Renewable Energy Lab says that new hybrid buses cost 40% less to maintain and 24% less to drive than previous models. More than 1,000 such buses are running in San Francisco, Toronto, and New York City, which has the largest hybrid bus fleet in the world. Way to go, New York, Toronto and San Francisco! California proposes a global-warming fee on businesses

Greenhouse gas emission fees proposed in California. Air pollution regulators in California’s Bay Area in the US are proposing annual fees for all businesses based on the amount of carbon emission they produce. This precedent-setting initiative would require companies to pay 4.2 cents for every metric ton of carbon dioxide they produce. Global Warming Threatens Walrus

The Center for Biological Diversity (CBD) files a petition with US Fish and Wildlife Service to protect the Pacific walrus. The Pacific walrus is adapted for life on Arctic sea ice, which is quickly disappearing because of global warming. Mr. Shaye (pronunciation: Shy a) Wolf, a biologist with the CBD, said, “With rapid action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, combined with a moratorium on new oil and gas development and shipping routes in the Arctic, we can still save the Pacific walrus, the polar bear, and the Arctic ecosystem.
