Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association relief news update from Formosa (Taiwan).
Typhoon Morakot struck Formosa on August 7, causing widespread floods and enormous mudslides that buried villages and claimed over 600 lives. Conveying her condolences and love, on August 8 Supreme Master Ching Hai requested that our Formosan Association members continuously check and help wherever necessary, donating US$30,000 for emergency supplies and more as needed.

With the mountainous areas of Chiayi County only reachable via helicopter, our Association members sent through the Chiayi Air Base six flights of food supplies, as well as LED flashlights, school supplies, and hygiene supplies.

In response to the requests of the Chiayi County’s Educational Department, they also provided 14 generators to elementary schools so that the students could resume classes.

Principal Cheng Rui-Chen, Siding Elementary School of Fanlu Township, Vegetarian (M): Thank you for your concern, thanks Master. We should cherish our planet, the one and the only. Certainly we encourage no killing vegan diet.

VOICE: Our respectful salute all government and relief personnel working to ease the disaster conditions. We are especially thankful to Supreme Master Ching Hai for her loving concern that brings comfort to the distressed, and to our Association members for their helpful efforts.

As we pray for the restoration of the flood-afflicted to their fulfilling daily lives, let us join in fostering kinder lifestyles to ease disturbing events as these.
