In animal welfare news, researchers discover a colony of rare monk seals in Greece. The location of this community of the world’s most endangered seal is on a small island in the Aegean Sea, an embayment of the Mediterranean Sea. Dr. Alexandros Karamanlidis, scientific coordinator of the MOm/Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of the Monk Seal said, “This place is incredibly important – the seals feel so secure that they go out on to open beaches.” The number of seals born annually on this island is among the highest recorded in the Mediterranean Sea. To further safeguard these precious marine mammals, the MOm/Hellenic Society is working to have this newly found habitat established as a marine protected area.

What wonderful news, MOm/Hellenic Society for the Study and Protection of the Monk Seal! Our heartfelt gratitude for your dedication to the thriving of these intelligent animals. May the loving monk seals flourish in safety and happiness, evermore protected by human guardianship and Heaven’s grace.
