German scientists from Schillerhoehe Hospital in Gerlingen found that after training, two German shepherds, an Australian shepherd, and a Labrador were able to successfully identify the breath samples of 372 out of 400 patients with lung cancer. The scientists called for additional research to discover more about the chemical or combination of smells that the dogs are recognizing.
