Irish Independent invites Supreme Master Ching Hai to a second telephone interview for next publication of Earth Magazine. An interview between Supreme Master Ching Hai and journalist Andrea Bonnie will appear in the Irish Independent’s Earth Magazine on December 10, 2008.

Supreme Master Ching Hai graciously accepted the invitation to be featured a second time after the first interview had been published in June 2008. The previous article, entitled “The Supreme Master Heralds the Way Forward,” shared Supreme Master Ching Hai’s answers to questions on how to save the planet.

The Earth Magazine is a free supplement distributed four times a year along with the Irish Independent newspaper, the most widely read daily newspaper in Ireland. The Earth Magazine will be available in all SHOPS, NEWSPAPER STANDS AND AIRPORTS NATIONWIDE IN IRELAND AND THROUGHOUT THE UNITED KINDGOM ON WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 10, 2008.

We are grateful to Supreme Master Ching Hai, who works tirelessly to awaken society to brighter possibilities for our future. Southern Ocean dangerously acidic

Oceans’ tipping point sooner than expected. A group of scientists from Australia’s University of New South Wales (UNSW) and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) have found that climate change-related ocean acidification may cause significant damage in lower concentrations than previously thought.
 
With global atmospheric levels of CO2 currently estimated at 385 parts per million (ppm), research lead Dr. Ben McNeil has stated that we are quickly approaching the 450 ppm level of CO2 that would severely affect organisms from plankton to coral, causing their skeletons and shells to dissolve away.

We thank you, Dr. McNeil and participating scientists at University of New South Wales and Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization, for this significant study. In consideration of these damaging effects to our ocean co-inhabitants, may we immediately adopt more sustainable lifestyles to ensure the survival of all life.
 
Times reporter warns of climate crisis

New York Times reporter urges quicker action for climate change. Anthony Revkin, who was awarded the John Chancellor Award for his two decades of covering the science and politics of global warming, addressed Yale University in Connecticut, USA on the need for urgent government and individual action to avoid the threat of higher numbers of people competing for declining resources.

Mr. Revkin also spoke of the need for more dedicated actions on the part of the media as well as united political leadership to clean and protect the environment. We applaud your ongoing dedication, Mr. Revkin, to alert the public, the media and world leaders about the urgency of addressing climate change.

With Divine grace, may humanity’s awakening result in more and more Earth-friendly actions to preserve all life on the planet.
 
In an interview with Ms. Jadranka Tavcar from RTV Slovenia Television, Supreme Master Ching Hai was asked for further insight regarding the plant-based diet and the need for support from the government and media to help preserve our Earthly home.

Ljubljana, Slovenia RTV (f): So you were saying that being a vegetarian is at least one thing everybody can do to save this planet.

Supreme Master Ching Hai :
Yes, individually at least. It is just so easy to do to save the planet like that. And then the governments have to help, maybe distribute more information encouraging more vegetarian diet lifestyle.

And the media helps to spread out more news about the goodness of vegetarian. Have to be like a fashion, it’s like a surge of new wave information, new positive, constructive ideas and information about how good is a vegetarian diet and it has been proven such and such. Just bombarding the whole planet with a new energy of compassion and love and health, then everybody will join in. Supportive energy is very important.

So if the government really makes it all open out, we must be vegetarian, we should be for the sake of the planet even, not to talk about compassion, Heaven, nothing yet, just for yourself. Then suddenly the whole awareness energy in the whole planet will help people to quit meat eating, quit meat diet, they will eat meatless diet.



Over 1.5 million in Africa benefit from return of cassava, UN reports

Nutritious cassava returns to Africa. Following a virus that devastated cassava plants throughout the Great Lakes region of Africa, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization together with the European Community Humanitarian aid Office, acted quickly to distribute healthy cassava roots to over 300,000 farmers. The replenishment is benefiting an estimated 1.5 million people in the countries of Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda and Uganda.

Known for its high protein value, the cassava normally flourishes without artificial fertilizer even in times of drought. Our gratitude, United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, the European Community Humanitarian aid Office and all the African growers for your collaborative efforts in restoring the beneficial cassava to the African people. Blessed be our world in revived plant-based sustenance such as this, available in plenty for all.
 
Giant Prehistoric Fish Rebounding in Canada

Giant freshwater fish on the rise once again in Canada. With a population that once dipped below 40,000 in the mid-1990s, the white sturgeon is now increasing in numbers, with approximately 50,000 in British Columbia’s Fraser River.

A team effort of government agencies, environmentalists, indigenous groups as well as Rick Hansen, a famous Canadian paraplegic athlete have led to the successful restoration of this 200 million-year-old fish species, which is also one of the largest on Earth, measuring up to 6 meters in length and weighing more than 680 kilograms. This is great news! Bravo, Canadian agencies and all others involved in this noble project. May the increasing numbers of the white sturgeon mark the beginning of many more such revivals through similarly caring endeavors across the planet.
