During a ceremony attended by 50,000 international officials and visitors, Hiroshima Mayor Tadatoshi Akiba marked the 64th anniversary of the first atomic bomb by calling upon the world to become nuclear weapon-free by 2020.
He was joined by Prime Minister Taro Aso, who highlighted the importance of Japan’s three non-nuclear principles: not to make, own or harbor nuclear weapons.
As white doves symbolic of peace were released into the air, Mayor Akiba stated, “Together, we can abolish nuclear weapons.
Yes, we can.”
Our respectful accolades and Heaven’s blessing, Japan, Your Honorable Mayor Akiba and Your Excellency Prime Minister Aso, for your noble goals of a peaceful nuclear-free world.
Surely our united efforts will lead to the soon reality of a harmonious and beautiful Earth.
