Peru’s Health Ministry reported that a 29-year-old woman has succumbed to pneumonic plague in the coastal province of Ascope, which is the same region where two other deaths from bubonic plague have been reported since June along with 31 others who have been infected.

Bubonic, pneumonic and septicemic plague are all caused by the bacterium Yersinia pestis, which scientists say has the potential to easily develop a resistance to antibiotics, thus making an outbreak difficult to treat.
The plague is transmitted by fleas, rodents, infected humans and consuming infected meats. Scientists have projected that climate change is likely to bring about more plague by creating conditions conducive to its growth, including frost-free springs and wet summers.

In 2009, the World Health Organization linked the deaths of at least three people in China to the consumption of wild marmot meat that was infected with the pneumonic plague.

Their cases illustrated the seriousness of the highly lethal and easily transmissible disease which can cause the loss of life within a few short hours.

Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the Peruvians who lost their lives to this tragic affliction. We pray that everyone soon realizes the lifesaving benefits of the plant-based diet in avoiding all such devastating diseases as these.

During an August 2009 videoconference in Thailand, Supreme Master Ching Hai discussed the cause and remedy for both disease and global warming.

Supreme Master Ching Hai: We have produced a lot, a lot, and a lot of negative energy by killing billions and billions of innocent sentient lives, and killing millions of our fellow humans even, over millennia, directly or indirectly. Directly is through war. Indirectly is through disease that we made ourselves, like with the bubonic plague, pneumonic plague, and now swine flu, bird flu, etc.

It is not a coincidence that the main cause of global warming is meat eating. And many of the leading health problems in our world are also derived from meat eating. So meat eating is cruelty to animals. Meat eating is
cruelty to our well-being. Meat eating is cruelty to our children’s wellbeing. Meat eating is cruelty to the planet.
Be vegan, and we will never have to suffer many of these kinds of consequences ever, ever again.
