Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association relief news update from Cambodia.
On November 2, tropical storm Mirinae made landfall in eastern Cambodia. A mother and daughter lost their lives, while four other family members were injured when trees were uprooted as dwellings were damaged or destroyed in northeastern Mondulkiri province.

Conveying much sorrow and her prayers, Supreme Master Ching Hai quickly donated US$10,000 on November 4 for our Association members to help the most desperate. This amount could acquire US$235,000 in emergency items, if purchased in the United States, based on the cost of living in Cambodia.

Using this contribution as well as US$2,320 of their own funds, our Association members from Cambodia and Âu Lạc (Vietnam) immediately purchased 7,500 kilograms of rice, instant noodles, tarpaulin sheets for shelter, shawls for warmth, salted radish root, and envelopes containing financial aid to share Master’s love with
the most vulnerable.

On November 13, 2009 they traveled to Koh Kong province where they distributed the packages to 300 villagers, including the lone elderly, the disabled and the orphaned.

As rising sea levels and encroaching salt water had already destroyed croplands, the packages also contained SOS flyers with information on the vegan solution to climate change. Traveling to another village where many disabled and elderly people resided, our Association’s relief team distributed 31 aid packages.

There they met a 73-year-old man who had suffered severe burns when his home was completely destroyed in a blaze. The team gave him extra monetary assistance, along with medicinal cream and ginseng.
Our heartfelt gratitude goes to Supreme Master Ching Hai for her altruistic care extended to the storm-afflicted, as we also thank our Association members for their endeavors.

May the Cambodian people be blessed with a swift recovery to their regular daily lives, as weather extremities are alleviated through our striving for kinder, Earth-balancing ways.
