Live Broadcast Seminar and Concert call on society to go veg to save the Earth.

It was a remarkably unified commitment on the part of governments, schools, companies and even celebrities and musicians. The 2008 Critical Moments to Save the Planet: “What Can I Do” Seminar was held on Sunday, June 29 at the Taipei County Hall in Formosa (Taiwan). Jointly organized by the Taipei County Government and the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association, the event assembled representatives from virtually all sectors of society, including educators, heads of media and advertising, leaders in the religious field and a young celebrity artist. Also attending were guests from the “Veg Angel” organization, a league of schools and enterprises that have pledged to promote at least one vegetarian day per week.

The Seminar invited Supreme Master Ching Hai as an honored guest to join the discussion, which opened with speeches by the Deputy Magistrate of Taipei County, Li Hong-Yuen, and legislator Lin Hong-Chi. They described the state of global warming, the role of the government and the need for vegetarianism as the cure and key action to halt climate change.

Deputy Magistrate of Taipei County Li Hong-Yuen: First, technology can’t save us. Technology has made our lives more comfortable, but it has produced carbon dioxide as well. Today, the scientists can’t solve our problems. It’s no longer a scientific issue. It’s an issue of government policy and an issue of the moral values of humankind.

VOICE: Supreme Master Ching Hai addressed the audience further with praise for Formosa’s (Taiwan) efforts and provided detailed insights in response to questions from the VIP participants.

Supreme Master Ching Hai: So I only suggest only one thing: just to go veg. Be vegetarian. Choose a vegetarian diet. Then all will cool down. All disasters will disappear. We will see how simple and happy life can be, and how we will think clearly, and how our heart will be more open, more blissful; we can understand many more things than we have understood up to now. And that we really can live with far less than what we thought possible, and still be happy and survive, satisfied and healthy.

VOICE: The videoconference with Supreme Master Ching Hai was broadcast live on Supreme Master Television. In the evening, the Taipei County government hosted the “Veg Love for Mother Earth Concert” as an engaging complement to the afternoon’s seminar. Various performances by primarily vegetarian artists made a powerful appeal for compassion and peace through music. Supreme Master Ching Hai was invited to commence the evening with her opening remarks. At the close of the concert, it was a delightful and touching surprise to hear the melodic voice of Supreme Master Ching Hai singing a song for all on Earth.

VOICE: We thank the Taipei County government and the supporting groups and individuals actively involved in making this event a wonderful success! We especially thank Supreme Master Ching Hai for her care and wise guidance to most quickly achieving a sustainable world by opting for an animal-free and loving lifestyle.

Please tune in at a later date for a full re-broadcast of this Seminar and Concert, here on Supreme Master Television, with multi-language subtitles.

Paul McCartney asks fellow Britons to partake in meat-free Mondays.

Former Beatle, animal rights advocate and long-time vegetarian Sir Paul McCartney is encouraging his fellow Britons to be vegetarian one day a week to help curb greenhouse gas emissions. In an interview with the magazine The Grocer, Sir Paul stated that the United Nations is strongly encouraging less meat eating to slow the effects of climate change. Said Sir Paul, “A meat-free Monday is like going to the gym – with the advantage of protecting the planet.”

A wonderful suggestion, Sir Paul McCartney! We convey our heartfelt gratitude for your noble and compassionate concerns for our animal friends. May your co-citizens heed your advice and remove meat from their diet as much as they are able to halt climate change and preserve our Earth.
