Experts warn of severe water shortages by 2080

Scientists warn of water shortage due to climate change. At a regional conference on global warming in Singapore, Professor Wong Poh Poh from the National University of Singapore and member of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, stated that global warming’s disturbance of natural water flow patterns could affect half the world’s population.

Speaking of the human impact on global warming, Rozali Ismail, head of a state water association in Malaysia said, “Floods, drought, changing rainfall patterns and rising temperatures are signs of our misdeeds to nature.” Adaptive and planet-cooling measures were recommended for all countries.

Thank you participating scientists for your call to address global warming and protect our water supplies. May we join together in doing our part to conserve this precious resource for the benefit of all beings.

In a videoconference for the Climate Change International Conference which took place on July 26, 2008 in California, USA, Supreme Master Ching Hai had reiterated the solution to preserving our water supply and saving the planet.

Videoconference with Supreme Master Ching Hai For the “Climate Change International Conference” July 26, 2008 – West Hollywood, California, USA

Supreme Master Ching Hai: Now we are complaining about shortage of water everywhere on the planet. One serving of beef, we use 1,200 gallons of clean good water. One serving of chicken, 330 gallons of water, clean and good. And one complete vegan meal, including rice or bread or tofu, that is full of protein, and vegetables, it cost only 98 gallons of water.

God has created enough water for us, enough food for us to last even forever, if we but know how to stop abusing the Earth’s resources and her sustenance. We should not kill our fellow beings to satisfy our greed. And this is the main point of planetary problems right now - our overly spending of our moral merit and world resources. When we just stop eating meat, then we have 70% plus water to use. Just leave that piece of meat out of your diet. Let peace begin on your table.

World's First Carbon Neutral Airline Gets on Board UNEP's Climate Initiative

Costa Rican airline joins United Nations CN Net. Fast-growing airline NatureAir is the first to join the Climate Neutral Network (CN Net), a United Nations-led initiative that promotes global action for green economies and societies. The Costa Rican airline began going green in 2004, when founder and CEO Alex E. Khajavi pledged carbon neutrality in offsetting of the airlines’ emissions by offering protection to tropical forests in southern Costa Rica. Kudos NatureAir for your green leadership and carbon-free business plan! May you continue to expand in exemplary service to both customers and the environment.

Dongtinghu lake's migration birds are facing danger

Migratory birds in China face hunger. Unusual rainfall upstream from China’s second-largest body of inland water, Dongting Lake, has caused its waters to rise to high levels in November, with flooding to nearby wetlands. This has adversely affected the migrating geese, swans, ducks, and cranes that normally forage for food and winter on the lake. The reduced food supplies have resulted in many birds relying on nearby farms for sustenance, with other flocks that have been seen lingering over the lake without landing. We pray that our avian friends will find enough food to be safe through this difficult winter. Let us join in doing our part to balance the environment by leading benevolent lifestyles.

LEED 2009 Update Approved

Updated standards for green certification of US commercial buildings. Members of the US-based Green Building Council have approved new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards for 2009, with advancements that include improvements in energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions. Another change for 2009 is the structure for LEED credits, which now prioritize climate change considerations. Bravo, US Green Building Council for these latest LEED measures! We look forward to further eco-transformation of commercial buildings to offer both comfort and planetary benefit.
