Top ten reasons for a turkey-free Thanksgiving.
For the US holiday on November 26, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) gives ten reasons to refrain from killing turkeys for the traditional Thanksgiving meal.
They cite such facts as turkeys’ remarkable intelligence and care for their young; the unhealthiness of their meat since it is high in fat and often contaminated with bacteria like Salmonella and Campylobacter; the potential for transmitting bird flu; warnings from
international organizations about antibiotic resistant disease risk; the suffering of the turkeys themselves due to extreme crowding, filthy living conditions and cruel death; the environmental tolls of animal waste pollution; the danger of the slaughterhouse workplace; and finally, because there is no need to kill turkeys with the countless healthy and humane alternatives available to enjoy on Thanksgiving Day.
Thank you PETA for these sound and caring reasons to save our precious turkey co-inhabitants. May all Americans opt for a cruelty-free holiday feast for the whole family to enjoy the true blessings of Thanksgiving.
