Newer Hybrid Buses Cheaper To Operate

Hybrid buses save energy and money too. A recent report by the US Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Renewable Energy Lab says that new hybrid buses cost 40% less to maintain and 24% less to drive than previous models. More than 1,000 such buses are running in San Francisco, Toronto, and New York City, which has the largest hybrid bus fleet in the world. Way to go, New York, Toronto and San Francisco! California proposes a global-warming fee on businesses

Greenhouse gas emission fees proposed in California. Air pollution regulators in California’s Bay Area in the US are proposing annual fees for all businesses based on the amount of carbon emission they produce. Agricultural and coastal areas bear the brunt of global warming. At a recent seminar on climate change held in Chandigarh, India, Shekhar Singh, former environmental advisor to the Planning Commission of India, said that global warming will take its greatest toll on coastal and farming communities.
