다른 행성들이 위기를 극복했던 전례를 전합니다.

우린 현시대에 처음으로 행성위기를  접하지만 우주에선 처음이 아닙니다. 칭하이 무상사는 미국 시애틀에 있는 협회 회원들과의 최근 화상회의에서 다른 행성들은 유사한 상황에 어떻게 대처했는지 공개했습니다.

질문자: 저희와 같이 온난화에 직면했었는데  특별히 무언가 해서 온난화를 멈출 수 있었던 다른 행성들이 있습니까?

칭하이 무상사: 여러분에게 말하는 것과 동일해요. 본래의 사랑과 덕 있는 자아로 돌아가는 거죠. 채식하고 환경보호하고 기도하고 명상하세요.

리포터: 또한 칭하이 무상사는 제한된 시간내의 결정적이고  효과적인  문제해결을 위해 지도자들의 힘을 결집시킬 것을 상기시켰습니다.

칭하이 무상사: 채식으로 바꾸고, 환경정책을 채택해 지구를 구하는 게 시급하다는 점을 지도자들이 공개적으로 시인하고 사람들에게 알려야 합니다. 정부, 대중 매체, 권력자 등 결정권 있고 영향력 있는 사람들이 도와야 합니다.

Precedents of overcoming crisis in other planets.

Though we may be facing the first planetary crisis in our times, it is not the first in the universe. Supreme Master Ching Hai revealed in the recent videoconference with our Association members in Seattle, Washington, USA how other planets have dealt with similar situations.

 (e): Other planets have faced global warming crisis, the same as ours. For the planets that were able to halt global warming, what in particular did they do?

Supreme Master Ching Hai : The same, like what I’m telling you. Return to the original loving and virtuous self. Go veg, go green, and pray. Meditate.

VOICE: Meanwhile, given our limited time, Supreme Master Ching Hai reminds us to mobilize the power of our leaders as a crucial and effective part of the solution.

Supreme Master Ching Hai: They have to openly endorse this and make people realize that it is urgent to save the planet by going vegetarian and by adopting a green policy. The government, the media, the powerful people, the people who can make decisions and influence people, they have to help.

VOICE: We are encouraged and glad to know of cases in which others were able to overcome and triumph through their diligent and virtuous efforts. 척박한 토양지대가 예상보다 많습니다.

최근 위성 사진에 근거하여  유엔 식량농업기구 (FAO)는 전세계 육지의 24%가 토질과 작물 생산성이 저하되었다고 발표했습니다. 이것은 이전에 발표한 10-20% 보다 증가했니다. 토양 저하의 원인에는 농업과 가축사육에서 기인한 과도한 경작이 있으며 이는 토양의 침식을 유발합니다. 이것은 생물 다양성을 감소시키고, 곡물 수확량을 감소하는 결과를 낳아, 때로는 농부들이 이주해야 하는 상황이 발생합니다. 중국과 아르헨티나, 남아공은 최근 더 많은 영향을 받아왔습니다.

유익한 연구를 한 FAO에게 진심의 감사를 전합니다. 지구의 자연적인 생산성 회복을 위해 국가들이 유념하여 필요한 조치를 취하길 기도합니다.  

Degraded land area is larger than expected. Based on recent satellite imaging,

the United Nation Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has reported that 24 percent of all land surface around the globe has been depleted in quality and crop-growing capability. This is significantly more than the 10 to 20 percent previously reported. Among the causes of soil degradation are excessive cultivation from farming and activities such as cattle grazing, which cause soil erosion. This results in biodiversity decline as well as reduced crop yields, with farmers sometimes being forced to relocate. China, Argentina, and South Africa have been increasingly affected in recent years.

FAO, we send our sincere thanks for your informative study. We pray that nations take heed and make the necessary changes to restore our Earth’s natural productivity.


연구원들이 늦여름 북극해 빙하의 분포 범위를 추정합니다.

극지와 해양 연구를 위한 독일  알프레드 베게너 연구소 과학자들은 2008년 9월 예상되는 바다빙하 분포범위의  모형을 만들었습니다. 거의 100% 정확하다는 그들의 조사 결과에 의하면 2008년 늦여름 빙하 분포 범위는 지금까지 두 번째로 낮게 측정됐던 2005년 수준보다 낮을 것으로 보입니다. 이보다 더 많은 양의 빙하가 녹은 건 작년이었습니다. 독일 과학자들의 이 계산은 북극해 빙하 감소에 대한  가장 정확한 예측을 체계화하기 위하여 국제과학대회의 일환으로 소개되고 있습니다.

중요한 북극 빙하의 미래를 정확히 예측하고자 하는 모든 연구원들께 감사드립니다. 전 세계 과학자들의 헌신적인 노력으로 지구온난화를 멈추고  지구를 구하는  조치가 신속히 필요하다는 것이  널리 알려지길 바랍니다.  

Researchers calculate probabilities for end-of-summer Arctic sea ice.

Scientists from Germany’s Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research have modeled the expected sea ice coverage for September 2008. Their findings, which they say are being made with a nearly 100 percent probability of being accurate, are that the ice remaining at the end of summer 2008 will be less than the second lowest measured ever, which was in 2005. A larger amount of ice loss took place in 2007. The German scientists’ calculations ar ebeing presented as part of an international scientific contest, with a goal of formulating the most exact predictions for Arctic sea ice loss.
