몽골에서 지구 온난화 세미나가 열렸습니다.

２００８년 ８월 이후 두 번째로 가진 모임에서 몽골의 초대 대통령인 푼살마진 오치르바트를 비롯해 유명 과학자와 정치가들이 생물 다양성과 메탄 수화물 및 인류 건강을 주제로 지구 온난화의 원인과 결과를 논의했습니다. 삼림 벌채와 물 부족 같은 몽골의 긴급한 생태적 문제와 개인이 할 수 있는 행동이 특별히 논의됐습니다.

바티마 푼살마 박사: 우리는 축산을 발전시켰으나 이는 온실가스 배출뿐 아니라 엄청난 양의 쓰레기를 산출합니다. 고체 쓰레기 외에 액체 폐기물을 산출해 물을 오염시키고 온실가스 배출을 증가시킵니다.

초이마 사라브 박사:『마음의 먼지가 옷에 묻은 오물보다 나쁘다』는 몽골 속담이 있습니다. 순수한 마음이 청정한 환경과 평화로운 삶을 창조할 겁니다. 기술적이고 정치적인 변화와 인류의 환경보호 책임에 대한 사회적 인식이 고취될 때 해결책이 나옵니다. 인류 자신이 지구 온난화를 야기시켰으니 해결을 도울 수도 있습니다.

현시대의 가장 긴급한 문제를 해결하기 위한 몽골의 사려깊은 시민들과 과학자들의 공동 노력에 갈채를 보냅니다. 천국의 은총과 인류의 신속하고 현명한 조치로 지구와 지구 생명체가 다시 한번 조화로이 번영하리라 믿습니다.

과학자와 고위인사 및 매체와 함께한 세미나 『지금 행동해 지구 온난화를 멈추자』에 화상회의로 참석하신 칭하이 무상사는 인식증진의 중요성과 특히 기후변화를 멈추기 위한 우리의 자비를 강조하셨습니다.

칭하이 무상사: 우린 반대쪽으로 방향을 바꿔야 합니다. 바로 자비로운 생활 방식으로 사는 거죠. 채식주의자가 되거나 비건이 되는 겁니다. 즉 어떤 동물성 제품도 쓰지 말아야 합니다. 그러면 자애로운 분위기가 우리 지구를 감싸게 됩니다. 천국의 보호와 축복으로 우리 주위와 지구 주위에 보호막을 형성해 매우 자비롭고 힘 있고 선량한 분위기를 만드는 거죠. 이것이 유일한 보호막으로 안전하고 영원한 겁니다. 그래서 우리는 지구 온난화와 생존 해결책에 대한 인식을 넓히도록 도와야 해요. 정부는 정보를 잘 파악하여 국민에게 알려야죠. 그래서 함께 최상의 행동과정을 결정하여 부정적 에너지를 유익하고 자비로운 에너지로 바꾸는 거지요. 그럼 모두가 구제되어 지금이나 미래에 행복하게 살 겁니다.

ＨＰ가 재활용 정책을 발표합니다.

미국의 전자기업 ＨＰ가 모든 상표의 컴퓨터, 모니터, 디지털 카메라, 스마트폰을 회수해 재활용하고 이에 대해 현금을 지불하는 온라인 서비스를 제공하고 있습니다. 돈을 지급할 가치가 없는 제품도 여전히 무료로 재활용합니다. 전자제품 재활용 프로그램으로 환경보호를 실천하는 ＨＰ에 갈채를 보냅니다. 우리 모두 이에 고무돼 녹색 미래로 나아가길 바랍니다.

일본, 한국 및 인도가 녹색산업을 확대합니다.

한국의 한승수 총리는 약 백만 개의 일자리를 창출할 녹색사업에 ３８０억 달러를 투자할 계획을 발표하는 한편 일본 환경성도 이와 유사하게 경기를 부양하고 기후변화 억제에 주력할 거라고 말했습니다. 인도 정부도 모든 공공시설이 지속가능 자원에서 에너지의 ５％를 얻고 향후 십 년간 매년 １％씩 늘리도록 명했습니다. 한국, 일본 및 인도의 환경보호 정책에 감사드리며 완전히 지속가능하고 오염 없는 날이 지상에 도래하길 바랍니다.

북미 숲에 미치는 기후변화 영향이 감시됩니다.

미국 뉴햄프셔대학 연구진과 캐나다 퀸 대학의 공동 프로젝트 페노캄이 원격 웹 카메라로 숲의 변화를 관찰합니다. 숲 전체에 배치된 １２개 카메라로 기록된 영상들은 숲의 탄소 주기를 추적하며 숲 건강에 대한 더 나은 이해와 지구온난화에 대한 특정 반응 결과를 제공할 것입니다. 뉴햄프셔 대학과 퀸 대학 과학자들의 귀중한 연구에 감사드립니다. 생명을 주는 소중한 나무들을 보호하는 효과적인 방법을 이해하는데 도움되길 빕니다. 

Mongolia holds national global warming seminar

Meeting for the second time since August 2008, noted scientists and statespersons, including the first Mongolian President Punsalmaagiin Ochirbat, discussed the causes and effects of global warming through topics such as biodiversity, methane hydrates and human health.

Special focus was given to Mongolia’s own urgent ecological issues such as deforestation and water scarcity, and how individuals could take action.

Dr. Batimaa Punsalmaa – Project coordinator, Strengthening of the United Management of Water Resource in Mongolia (F): We develop animal agriculture, animal agriculture generates this greenhouse gas, and we also produce a huge amount of trash. Besides solid trash, we generate the fluid trash which is polluted water and it adds to greenhouse gas emissions.

Dr. Choimaa Sharav – Executive Director, Ecology Research and Sustainable Development (M): There is a Mongolian proverb that says, “The dirt in the heart is worse than the dirt of the clothes.” A pure heart will create a pure atmosphere, a peaceful life. If we don’t make everyone realize this, we cannot win in the end if we fight only by making many scientific researches about ecology. Meanwhile some people will cut down the trees, some will hunt and some will remove the soil for mining gold while others will dig in the earth searching for many resources under the land, and all these activities will only deepen.

VOICE: Solutions raised covered not only technical and political changes, but also raising social awareness that humans have a responsibility to treat the environment with greater care.

Dr. Batimaa Punsalmaa (F): Humans themselves caused this global warming, so they also can be part of the solution. It depends on our consciousness.

Dr. Choimaa Sharav (M): The main point that I wished to convey in this seminar was that we should start from kindergarten with every young citizen of Mongolia to purify their minds by teaching the inherent noble quality of human beings, or the Buddha nature. This will be the main solution to the climate change issue and many problematic issues related to Mongolia’s ecology.

HP, Motorola Announce Groundbreaking Recycling Initiatives

Hewlett Packard announces recycling initiative. Available for all brands of equipment, US-based electronics company Hewlett-Packard in the USA is offering an online service to recycle computers, monitors, digital cameras and smart phones, often for cash. Even if the equipment cannot be redeemed for money, the company will still recycle it for free. Kudos Hewlett-Packard for being a great corporate eco-citizen through this electronics program! May we all be inspired toward a greener future through endeavors such as these.


South Korea, India and Japan have all announced major plans to incentivize clean energy and invest in environmental projects.

Japan, South Korea, and India to expand green industries. South Korea’s Prime Minister Han Seung-soo has announced plans to spend US$38 billion for green projects that will create nearly a million jobs, while the Japanese Environment Ministry said it would similarly boost the economy while seeking to curb climate change as well. India’s government is also mandating that all utilities buy 5% of their energy from sustainable sources, with annual 1% increases over the next decade. Queen’s joins unique international climate change monitoring project

North American forests monitored for climate change. As a collaborative project between researchers at the University of New Hampshire, USA and Queen’s University, Canada, Phenocam uses remote web cameras to observe changes in forests. Images recorded from the 12 cameras stationed throughout the region will track the forest carbon cycle, thus providing a better understanding of forest health and specific responses to global warming. University of New Hampshire and Queen’s University scientists, we appreciate this valuable study. May it aid us in understanding how we may better protect the vital life-giving trees of our Earth.
