European Union draft law sets new limits on animal experimentation. On Tuesday, May 11 a set of measures drawn up by the European Commission were approved by delegates from the 27 member states. With the draft law describing animals as sentient beings with inherent value that must be respected, new rules include an experimentation ban on great apes such as chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans as well as other animals from the wild. They also require future testing projects to reduce the 12 million animals currently used in experiments and replace with alternatives whenever possible. The laws will be officially adopted once approved by the European Parliament in September. The European Union in 2009 has already banned the vast majority of animal testing for cosmetics.

Our accolades, European Union nations and citizens for your caring efforts to minimize the pain and suffering caused to our animal friends during laboratory experimentation. We pray that one day soon such practices are completely banned for the restored dignity and freedom of gentle co-inhabitants across the globe.
