Experts warn of severe water shortages by 2080

Scientists warn of water shortage due to climate change. At a regional conference on global warming in Singapore, Professor Wong Poh Poh from the National University of Singapore and member of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, stated that global warming’s disturbance of natural water flow patterns could affect half the world’s population.

Speaking of the human impact on global warming, Rozali Ismail, head of a state water association in Malaysia said, “Floods, drought, changing rainfall patterns and rising temperatures are signs of our misdeeds to nature.” Adaptive and planet-cooling measures were recommended for all countries.

Dongtinghu lake's migration birds are facing danger

Migratory birds in China face hunger. Unusual rainfall upstream from China’s second-largest body of inland water, Dongting Lake, has caused its waters to rise to high levels in November, with flooding to nearby wetlands. This has adversely affected the migrating geese, swans, ducks, and cranes that normally forage for food and winter on the lake. The reduced food supplies have resulted in many birds relying on nearby farms for sustenance, with other flocks that have been seen lingering over the lake without landing. We pray that our avian friends will find enough food to be safe through this difficult winter. Let us join in doing our part to balance the environment by leading benevolent lifestyles.

LEED 2009 Update Approved

Updated standards for green certification of US commercial buildings. Members of the US-based Green Building Council have approved new Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards for 2009, with advancements that include improvements in energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions. Another change for 2009 is the structure for LEED credits, which now prioritize climate change considerations. Bravo, US Green Building Council for these latest LEED measures!
