Russia and Norway sign historical border agreement. On Tuesday, November 2 a treaty was signed between delegates of Norway and Russia that will permit visa-free travel for residents living within 30 kilometers of the nearly 200-kilometer shared border of the two countries. The new accord, which is the first of its kind between a Schengen country and Russia, is expected to directly benefit more than 50,000 Norwegian and Russian citizens. Commending the agreement, Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre expressed his hopes that it will also expand further partnerships between the nations.
We, too, laud this auspicious agreement that permits smoother travels and exchanges between Russia and Norway. May such advancements as these pave the way to a harmonious, border-free world.
