Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association relief news from the Philippines.
On September 27, floods caused by Typhoon Nesat (Pedring) swept through the northern Philippine region of Luzon, claiming at least 52 lives and displacing over 2,600 families. Police and soldiers worked to rescue and assist the victims.

VOICE: Supreme Master Ching Hai requested that our Association members please go to offer aid to the most desperate, and donated US$10,000, sent with all her love and prayers.

This amount could acquire US$135,000 in urgent items if purchased in the United States, based on the Philippines’ cost of living. Covering their own travel and related expenses of US$1,580, our Association’s relief team from Formosa (Taiwan) joined our Philippine Association member in Manila.

Together, they traveled to Navotas City near Manila, where the Department of Social Welfare office directed them to the most vulnerable neighborhoods.Local officials worked to assist the relief team throughout the operation.

By October 5, food supplies were bought and repacked for distribution the next day, and included rice, cooking oil, soy sauce, and vinegar.

John Rey M. Tiangco – Mayor of Navotas City, Philippines (M): I’d like to thank Supreme Master Ching Hai for all the help she’s given to the victims of the Typhoon Pedrang.

More than the goods, I think it’s the hope that she’s given to these people, because right now, they’re homeless. And what they really need is hope, because they’ve lost everything. So thank you very much.

VOICE: With appreciation for the care of the Philippine officials, we join in thanking Supreme Master Ching Hai for her loving support of the flood victims and our Association’s relief team for their caring efforts. May such disastrous weather events be eased through our greater consideration toward all beings in the ecosphere.
