In good governance news, the United Kingdom expands a project which provides cash incentives to eat healthier and stop smoking. The government announced a plan offering designated families vouchers of £50 (US$80), which can be exchanged for fruit and vegetables. Successful programs that have been held included one that paid participants up to £425 (US$662) to reach their weight loss goals and maintain the new lower weight for 24 months. It resulted in an average loss of 6.8 kilograms (15 pounds) for participants. Another encouraged expectant mothers to give up smoking in exchange for £12 (US$19.50) per week.

Kudos, British government, on taking such innovative approaches to improving public health. May all people adopt life-enhancing habits which lead to greater well-being.
