Top ten places being affected by climate change. Based on research and first-hand experience, a new book by author Stephan Faris highlights ten locations in the world that are experiencing the most drastic change from global warming. Included are Darfur in Sudan, whose droughts are causing instability amongst the region’s inhabitants, and island nation Kiribati, which has become the first to announce that global warming is rendering its lands uninhabitable. Acid rain levels on the rise, but by how much?

Âu Lạc (Vietnam) reports increasing acid rain fall. The Environmental Research Centre in Âu Lạc estimates that up to 50 percent of the nation’s overall rainfall is acidic, with the level of contamination found to be higher at the beginning of the rainy reason. Acid rain, which results primarily from fossil fuel-based nitrogen and sulfur pollution, is especially harmful to the human respiratory system as well as vegetation, insects and aquatic life, and it also damages buildings and infrastructure. Mexico 4th in Environment Protection

Mexico named in top five for environmental protection. The Protected Areas National Commission (CONAP) recently issued a statement citing Mexico as being at the forefront of environmental conservation among countries such as the United States, Spain and Russia. In 2008, Mexico registered 112 areas to be a part of the Ramsar International Convention on Wetlands of International Importance, an intergovernmental agreement to preserve wetland regions. Also, some of the areas that have recently come under protection have been noted by The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as ecologically important.
