The Institute of Security Studies (ISS) has announced this official status after more than half the continent
ratified the African Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone Treaty, also known as the Treaty of Pelindaba.

With 53 signatory countries, Burundi was the 28th to ratify the document, the number needed for the treaty to come into effect.

The accord bans the development, production, testing or acquisition of nuclear weapons and also prevents foreign vessels that carry nuclear weapons from entering Africa.

Our respectful accolades, African nations, for your united accord. Wishing the continent and indeed brethren worldwide relations of ever-expanding harmony and peace.
