US diplomatic “surge” announced to hasten the end of the Afghan war. Addressing members of the Asia Society on Friday, February 18 at its headquarters in New York, USA, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton elaborated on efforts to further stability in Afghanistan and neighboring Pakistan, as she also affirmed plans to withdraw all US troops by the end of 2014. Secretary Clinton stated that, as part of an intensified diplomatic push to help bring the conflict to an end, the US had tripled the number of civilians working in Afghanistan to over 1,100 11,000 experts in the previous year alone. Coming from nine federal agencies focused on areas such as agriculture, infrastructure development and government training, these personnel are working with the Afghan people to help stabilize and usher in a more secure future for the region.

Our respectful appreciation, Secretary Clinton and US government, for this encouraging emphasis on peaceful development in Afghanistan and Pakistan. May such efforts succeed in spreading both harmony and stability for the lasting benefit of all people in the region.
