Aung San Suu Kyi freed in Myanmar, also known as Burma. On Saturday, November 13, fencing was removed from around the home of Burmese Democracy leader and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, allowing her supporters to greet her. She appeared smiling and wearing a flower in her hair as an exuberant crowd of 5,000 hailed her with chanting, cheering and the national anthem. Dr. Suu Kyi expressed thanks to her well-wishers, pledging to see them the next day at the offices of her political party, as she stated, “If we work in unity, we will achieve our goal. We have a lot of things to do.” News of her freedom was welcomed by world leaders such as US President Barack Obama, who stated, “She is a hero of mine and a source of inspiration for all who work to advance basic human rights in Burma and around the world. The United States welcomes her long overdue release."

Our joyfulness, too, for the freedom of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi! We send our heartfelt best wishes as you reunite with eagerly awaiting family, friends and supporters. May Buddha bless you in good health as a continued beacon of hope and peace for your fellow countrypersons and the world.
