The Australian government introduces a plan to impose a tax on carbon dioxide (CO2) on the worst polluters in an effort to encourage businesses to invest in clean technologies and greener ways of operating as well as to reward farmers who reduce emissions and take other steps to protect the environment.

Officials in Âu Lạc (Vietnam) state that as of June 2011, a pioneering conservation program launched in 2008, which collects funds from ecotourism and utility companies for their use of natural resources, has successfully sustained livelihoods and preserved 210,000 hectares of forests and hundreds of threatened species.
