Death toll from US extreme heat wave rises to 39 people - 15 Jul 2011

Temperatures of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius)for 12 consecutive days in counties across north Texas, USA have claimed two lives, with 39 who perished throughout the country by July 14 as heat warnings are issued in 24 states.

With 15 deaths and 7,000 hospitalized for heatstroke in June alone, health experts in Japan on July 12, 2011 urge residents not to spare the use of air conditioning despite a nationwide power-saving campaign as the country continues to endure the highest temperatures in decades.
