United Nations climate change agency concludes meeting. South Korean Correspondent (F): We're here in South Korea’s southern port city of Busan where the 32nd General Meeting of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has just ended. Nicolas Beriot – French Ministry of Ecology, head of French delegation to IPCC (M): We see changes in temperature, we see the sea level rising every year, and we see changes in the precipitation patterns. In some countries it already has strong effects, and people really feel the consequences. The IPCC’s role in the upcoming conference of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change was also discussed. Dr. Jean-Pascal van Ypersele – IPCC Vice-chair (M): Thus, what the IPPC will do in Mexico in December is once again to remind that climate change and global warming are well on the way, that they are mainly caused by the emissions linked to human activities, that the consequences will be very important on a planetary scale if we continue not to make a big effort to protect the climate, and that the solutions are at hand, that it is possible to reduce greenhouse gases, CO2, methane, nitrous oxide emissions, and that this is not so difficult and not so expensive. Dr. Jean-Pascal van Ypersele – IPCC Vice-chair (M): There are various solutions which are mentioned in the IPPC report. If we consume less animal foods, we will necessarily decrease methane gas emissions which are linked to their consumption. VOICE: We salute the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change scientists and other government officials and delegates working to advance the study and solutions to climate change. Supreme Master Ching Hai: I urge the government leaders, because our time is running out, we have to act on this now. Please explain to your co-citizens this important truth and tell them we must work together to become animal-free consumers.
We have a very short time to save our planet. We have a great planet to save. We have a great precious treasure - that is, our children - to save. the government and the people have nothing to lose by being vegan. For the environment, the absence of livestock will bring about much less pollution and less waste of water and food resources. For the citizens, there are perfectly nutritious, delicious alternatives to animal products nowadays. And the vegan diet is also the best for our children.
