The
Northwest Straits Marine Conservation Initiative in Washington state
has been granted US$5 million to remove discarded fishing nets that are
a source of continuous harm to marine animals. Some nets are larger in
size than a football field and will take one diver two days to bring to
the surface. Besides clearing the waters for the benefit of aquatic
inhabitants such as rare king crabs and whales, the funded endeavor is
helping create many new jobs.
Kudos US government for your
concerned support in addressing this vital matter. We look forward to
ever-expanding efforts that restore the freedom and safety of all
co-inhabitants beneath the sea.
