Dr. Jeffrey Kiehl of the US National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) headed a study of how the Earth's past climate might forecast the future due to climate change. He estimated that if the current rate of burning fossil fuels were to continue to the end of this century, concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere would reach around 900 to 1,000 parts per million, compared to pre-industrial levels of 280 and 390 today.

If CO2 concentrations of that magnitude are reached, it could take tens of thousands of years for it to be removed by natural processes. The last time CO2 concentrations were so high was 30 to 100 million years ago, when temperatures were also much higher. Dr. Kiehl estimates that the global average temperature under this scenario would reach around 16 degrees Celsius higher than in pre-industrial times.

He stated, “If we don't start seriously working toward a reduction of carbon emissions, we are putting our planet on a trajectory that the human species has never experienced. We will have committed human civilization to living in a different world for multiple generations.”

Dr. Kiehl and associates at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, we appreciate these insights, despite their troubling implications. May this dire potential scenario for the Earth and her inhabitants motivate us toward choices that ensure a livable future for all beings. As during this October 2009 videoconference in Formosa (Taiwan), Supreme Master Ching Hai has often explained scientific findings that also point to a solution to the global warming problem.

Supreme Master Ching Hai : Carbon dioxide takes many decades to leave our atmosphere, but methane has a lifetime of about 12 years only.

Therefore, it's more effective and smart for us to focus on methane first, and to do that we have to stop its number one source, the meat industry. And for that, we must change our diet.

Also, when we plant organic the organic farming will also absorb another 40%, at least, of the carbon dioxide in the air already.

Then we will be singing, our world will be saved. Our children will continue to live in this home forever.
