Despite recent rainfall, the British Environment Agency reports that central and eastern England received less than half of their usual average precipitation as of mid-June 2011, with this year's drought effects not yet reversed.

A joint statement released on June 16,2011 by over 10,000 members of the Soil Science Society of America the Crop Science Society of America and the American Society of Agronomy warns of the adverse agricultural impacts of climate change on soil, land management and crop yields, saying that mitigation efforts are urgently needed.
