A study published in the February 2010 issue of the medical journal Addiction evaluated more than 20,000 Israeli military personnel and found that those that smoked a pack a day or more had IQ scores 7.5 points lower than those who didn’t.

Lead author Dr. Mark Weiser and a team from Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan also discovered that as more cigarettes were smoked, the IQ decreased further, with scores of 98 for men who smoked up to 5 cigarettes a day that went down to 90 for those who smoked more than a pack daily.

In addition, 70 pairs of brothers where only one smoked were also reviewed, with the non-smoking brothers having higher IQs on average.

Many thanks, Dr. Weiser and team for these illuminating findings on the further harms of tobacco. Let us all leave behind damaging substances as these by choosing the way of clear-minded health and vitality.
