In good governance news, the Canadian government proposes more explicit warning labels for cigarette packages. The recommendations, which were developed under an approximately US$3.6 million federal grant, will include graphic cautionary displays. They will cover 75% of the packaging, and will be required for all tobacco products. In addition, a national quit line will be inaugurated, with all cigarette packages containing information about it. An anti-smoking social media campaign designed for young people in their early to mid-20s will also be put in place.

Our thankfulness, Canada, for these health- protecting proposals. May governments around the world take decisive steps to encourage life-affirming habits for a vibrant planet.
